Once the recipient and donor pre-surgery process has been done successfully per my previous blogs, before the surgery date can be planned, there is legal formalities to be done. The coordination dept. in room 2061 phase-2 building helps you with this process and getting the approval.

  • The first step is to provide copies of the documents mentioned below (under points 1, 2 and 3) to coordination dept. (Room: 2061)
  • Once document copies against the list is verified by coordination dept., plan a date where everyone involved visits the coordination department with original documents to sign the papers.
  • Once you have the signed papers from coordination department, the next step is to notarize them. This can be done at Mehrauli registrar office in Delhi which is not too far from ILBS. There are quite a few agents outside the office and charge around INR 500 to get the stamping done.
  • In parallel, ensure you have blood donors identified as explained further down in step 4.
  • Make the payment for transplant package ( currently INR 14,50,000) and provide the receipt to coordination dept. The coordination dept. then also gets the approval from their working committee. Post this approval you have the finalized date to get admitted to the hospital for the surgery to take place.

NOTE: If you are not an Indian citizen and acting as donor, you also need to get the no objection certificate from the respective authority of your host country.

4)- Blood Arrangement – Before the surgery, you need to provide replacement blood units which works as follows:

  • Whole Blood – You need to arrange volunteers who can donate blood to link to patient account at ILBS. You need 10 units of blood and all blood groups are accepted. The blood donor criteria is pretty strict as explained further below.
  • Platelets – You need to have 3 persons identified who have same blood group as the patient and can act as blood platelets donor. The person has to go through a initial screening which takes only 10-15 mins to be listed as the platelet donor. Platelets are taken the evening before the surgery and the person has to spend 2-3 hours for this process.
